Exodus 12:12-13
12 ‘For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. 13 Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
There came a time in the history of the Hebrew people that innocent children were being slaughtered and families were being destroyed. God heard their cry and rose up a deliverer who served as a conduit of judgment on the wicked establishment. After several chances to set the people free, God dropped the hammer. He instructed the Hebrew people to establish a line of demarcation above their doors…the blood.
The blood of an innocent lamb would yearly serve as a reminder of what God did to save them from utter annihilation. Those are the type of traditions one must never lose. Those who come behind us must know there is a God who loves them and who will always be present to deliver them!
