Rainmaker
Tails from the Farm
John
4:13-14 Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be
thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed,
the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal
life."
We
have this handy gadget out in the country that most people probably never
use. It’s a rain gauge. While living in town, I never had one
and hardly ever paid attention to how much rain we received. But here, you
could ask almost anyone what the week’s forecast is, and they would know!
It’s been a week or two since our last rain, and we need a good inch or
so. Most people can usually define their need for physical water,
especially if they are in the Oklahoma heat wave season. If we have
clouds and cooler temperatures, we are all looking up, praying for rain!
Gauging
our spiritual thirst is much harder to do. The symptoms that show up after
a long season of “inner dehydration” might not necessarily tell us
the whole picture. In fact, we are very good at ignoring that gut check
because it’s easier, we think, to keep doing everything on our own.
In reality, we need a good, long drink of something that really lasts.
The
only place you’ll find living water, that lasts, is in the Bible. God
speaks through His Word, and it refreshes and revitalizes us like no Gatorade
ever could. But we have to open it with a believing heart. Any
hard-hearted skeptic can pass these Words off as no big deal. But reading
to yourself the greatest love letter ever written will not only quench your
thirst, it will equip you for the life you were mean to live. Check your
“rain gauge” and see if you’ve been in a time of
drought. If you are worn out and fed up, chances are you need to walk out
into a good, slow rain. Don’t ever underestimate what God can do
to restore you and everything around you. Run to the Rainmaker, and
enjoy a really good soaking today.

Biblical Meditation: Revelation 7:17 For the Lamb at the
center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living
water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
