Moses
Called Beyond Credentials
Exodus 3:4 When the LORD saw that he had caught Moses’ attention, God called
to him from the bush, “Moses! Moses!” “Here I am!”
Moses replied.
When it comes to calling, Moses is an easy
pick. Early on in the book of Exodus (chapter two), it’s obvious God has
plans for this unique individual. Although the Pharaoh in Egypt had issued an
all-out attack on the newborn baby boys of the enslaved Israelites, Moses is
spared by Pharaoh's own daughter! He consequently grows up as a prince. But in
one day that all changed. Witnessing an Egyptian mistreating one of his
kinsmen, Moses took matters in his own hands and killed the man.
But like all sins do, the word got out, and
Moses was in trouble. One day, he was the man in charge, and the next he was
running for his life. I can’t help but think his mom and dad were so
broken-hearted when they heard he had blown his opportunity to change things in
Egypt for their people. I mean, it was evident that God had divinely placed him
in the palace, giving him favor with the Pharaoh. Now, the Israelites may never
see freedom from the hands of their oppressors. But that’s only
part of the story. Others may give up on you or be upset when you take a
“step back.” But not God! He will use your “step back”
to bring you back, setting you in a place of victory! And then
you’ll be ready and willing to do whatever the Master commands. Such is
the case with Moses. Forty years after his exit from Egypt, God calls his name.
“Moses! Moses!“
And the rest, as they
say, is history. He goes on to break the bonds of tyranny from the Egyptian
empire, setting his people free. He does this at eighty years of age, no
less! Now that’s what I call a comeback! If people in Moses’
day were anything like us, nobody saw it coming. Nobody imagined what God had
in store for him. One thing I’ve learned in life and I pass on to you
this day: nothing is impossible with God. And know that if He did
great things with a man like Moses, He’s got great things planned for you
as well. You are the apple of His eye.
